Last Sunday I had the opportunity to attend the second half of a workshop with the esteemed and extremely talented professional illustrator, CF Payne. While I missed the demonstration of his specific method on Saturday due to work, I was able to attend the Sunday session and learned from him and others how he does his illustrations. I took a picture of my best bud from college, (who had recently been blessed with his first son) as a photo reference for my piece on Sunday. It turned out so darn well that I had to send it off to him as soon as I could, yet I could not post a pic of it until he had received it. He got it today, so I have posted it up for all to see!

Completed five illos for the upcoming adventure Operation A.P.E. for Bounty Head Bebop. Shifting around my style, experimenting on different line/shadow qualities. Enjoy!

Erebus, son to Caine, is a character I am currently playing in a Play-By-Post game of Amber Diceless Roleplaying. Smart-mouthed, irreverent, and largely absent from Amber as a result of some poorly chosen words to a normally congenial uncle. Erebus thought an extended trip through Shadow may improve his chances to live to see another year.
Next will be the hero of the Amber Chronicles (at least in his own eyes) Corwin, self crowned King of Amber. Well, he was for a matter of moments before he was beaten and forced to watch his brother Eric claim the crown and throne.
True story: I really lobbied for Corwin as a possible boy’s name, if my youngest had popped out a boy. Alas, I was gifted with my third girl, sweet Anna. S’okay. We have plenty of girl clothes.

Caine has always been the dark brother, the one no one really trusts because he is as likely to stab them in the back as help them. His reputation is well deserved, for the man hunted down a physical double in Sahdow, killed him, framed another brother for the deed, and hid out in Shadow trying to uncover the plot of whoever was behind the Black Road. He showed up in the nick of time to strike a decisive blow against the great betrayer of Amber, but no one trusts him for it.
Next I have a creation I summoned form the nether regions of my head and are one of the major foes of the Play-By-Post game of Amber Diceless Roleplay I am running: The Corruptor.
Crafted to violently possess their foes, they can take over their host’s body for a short while to commit mayhem and destruction on their foes. Not only can they survive out of water, but have amazingly fast mobility for being utterly boneless!

Brand was the the greatest of old Dworkin’s students, the most inquisitive, and creative. Arguably the most brilliant, devious and villainous of the brood. His ultimate plan to wipe the Pattern away, destroying mighty Amber and rewriting reality with himself as the godhead. If not for the desperate measures taken to eliminate him, his grand scheme would have destroyed everything.
Mercurial, fickle, lovable and despicable in turns, Brand’s machinations took decades of planning, and came within inches of succeeding.

Corwin’s arrogant, superbly capable younger brother, Bleys could very nearly had achieved his goal of storming the Castle Amber, as he wound his way up the steep steps of Kolvir. If not for a suicidal leap of an opponent, Bleys could have fought his way to the top. As it stands, he killed hundreds in the slow ascent, a feat nearly matching those of the elder Benedict. Bleys could very well be the second best swordsman of the Princes of Amber.

To gear up my guache-colored pencil mixed-media skills, I have set a project for myself: to illustrate the Trumps of Roger Zelazny’s brilliant Amber series. The trumps are magical tarot cards that allowed mental communication between the scions of Amber Sort of magical cell phones mixed with teleporters, envisioned long before cell phones existed. Their power worked through all of Shadow, and even allowed one person to bring the other one through the trump to their location. The Trumps illustrated the Nine Princes and four Princesses of Amber.
First up is Benedict, warrior supreme of Amber. Peerless tactician and master swordsman, his skill at warfare has no equal.
Next up: Bleys.

Working with Guache. First time in 15 years, actually, and does it feel good to be working color again without burning through my Prismacolor box?
Did a little painting of my sister and her fiance for her birthday over the weekend. It looked rank amateurish and I hate to admit it, but I feel embarassed to post it. I will post some when I feel they are presentable.
My new hero? James Gurney. I have an art-crush.

A new PDF in the works for Bounty Head Bebop, this time a series of villains for game masters to use as adversaries or simply plug into their existing game. Here are the five villains I illustrated:
